What is the real Living Wage?
It is an independent calculation of the hourly rate someone aged 18 and over in the UK, needs to earn to meet their everyday needs. Employers who pay the Real Living Wage do so on a voluntary basis. The Real Living Wage is not based on the government Minimum Wage which includes what businesses find affordable or the National Living Wage – these are both statutory requirements and include age thresholds.
As of November 2022 (hourly rates)
UK Living Wage £10.90
London Living Wage £11.95 (includes a London weighting for higher costs of living)
National Minimum Wage £9.50
With the current economic climate in the UK, what better time for employers to consider paying the real Living wage to their workforce.
